If you see dead or dying redfish in our rivers, Bay, or backwaters, we want to hear from you. Mobile Baykeeper has partnered with Auburn University’s Fish Parasite & Disease Laboratory to learn what is driving redfish kills across Coastal Alabama. Your report helps researchers collect fresh samples, study patterns, and understand what might be stressing the fish. These samples are limited to parasite testing and won’t include results for low oxygen or toxic substances.
Redfish are a vital part of our coastal ecosystem and culture. When something harms them, it sends a signal about the health of the waters we all depend on. Community reports help us respond quickly so the researchers can gather data before the fish deteriorate.
Your report helps scientists collect timely samples to look for causes such as disease, low oxygen, toxins, or other stressors. This community-science effort strengthens our understanding of fish health and the overall health of our coast. It helps us protect our way of life, because no one should have to question if the fish are safe to eat or the waters are safe to swim in. These waters are yours.
