Bon Secour Bay derives its name from a French phrase meaning “safe harbor” and is a sub-estuary of Mobile Bay. The waterbody’s total area is 103.84 square miles. The watershed’s total land area is 2.37 square miles, with land use within the watershed being predominantly forest. The Admiral Shellfish Company is an oyster farm that supplies raw oysters throughout the Mobile Bay region and beyond. It is in Fort Morgan and owned by Anthony Ricciardone, a fervent supporter of Mobile Bay keeper and coastal preservation. Fort Morgan is an unincorporated community named for its eponymous 19th century military installation, a pentagonal fort designated a National Historic Landmark in 1960.
