Oyster Gardening Intern

The Oyster Gardening Intern and be part of the transformative effort to revive our oyster reefs—a critical step in ensuring the vitality of our coastal ecosystems. As an intern, you’ll play a pivotal role in caring for these oyster gardens and supporting their deployment onto natural habitats, contributing directly to the restoration of our precious marine environments. Whether you’re experienced in fieldwork or eager to dive into environmental conservation, this internship offers a unique chance to make a tangible impact while exploring the beauty of Coastal Alabama’s rugged outdoors.

Mobile Baykeeper is an environmental nonprofit organization working to defend and revive the health of coastal waters in Alabama. We are working towards a future where our oyster reefs make a resilient return, and we need your help to achieve this vision.                      

We are hiring paid/part-time internship positions for our Oyster Gardening Program. In partnership with Auburn University, we grow oysters in cages on private property docks over the course of 4-6 months. These oysters are deployed on natural habitats for restoration.

Applicant must:

  • Be comfortable working in rugged outdoor conditions Be able to lift 40 pounds
  • Be able to swim and wade in water
  • Have reliable transportation

Interns will provide care and maintenance for oyster gardens and assist with restoration deployment activities. We do not require prior experience working with oysters, but prior fieldwork experience is preferred. Mileage expenses will be reimbursed.
