Grants Manager

Location: Mobile, Alabama

About the Role

Mobile Baykeeper is looking for a Grants Manager to coordinate and write grant applications for funding, ensure deliverables are met, and report on progress to funders in order to provide our Programs Department with the sufficient funds, staff, and equipment to create measurable change in the health of the waters of Coastal Alabama.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research grant opportunities from government and non-government agencies and foundations that align with Baykeeper’s mission and goals (20% of time)
  • Collaborating with program staff based on the organizational and programmatic funding requirements, conceptualize and draft grant proposals and supporting documents by identifying opportunities and needs, studying RFPs, participating in relevant staff meetings, and developing an understanding of the organization’s work, programs, priorities, innovations, history, mission, and accomplishments. (25% of time)
  • Assembling information including project nature, objectives/outcomes/deliverables, implementation, methods, timetable, staffing, budget, standards of performance, and evaluation, submit proposals and reports to grant coordinator for approval (20% of time)
  • Maintain records of proposal and report deadlines, grant progress, deliverables, grant contacts, and submit reports related to ongoing grants and possible funding opportunities (35% of time)

    Essential Skills and Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field
    • 3 years’ experience in grants or nonprofit field, unless applicant has successfully written and been awarded a federal grant with less than 3 years’ experience
    • Strong organization, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills, with ability to engage in strategic planning and process improvementStrong communication, research, and writing skills, with the ability to create a compelling narrative from research and facts
    • Ability to work independently or with a team and manage multiple deadlines
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and federal agency grant portals
    • Ability to plan, implement, and coordinate multiple schedules
    • High professional and ethical standards for handling confidential information

    Performance Indicators

    • If applications are submitted on time,
    • If applications are granted at a rate securing sufficient funding for programs,
    • If reports are submitted on time and to the appropriate funders,
    • If final deliverables can be sufficiently executed by programs department,
    • If communication between programs and development provides for the efficient execution of the proposed programs.

    Day in the Life:

    • Meet with Programs Department to discuss community needs and program needs
    • Meet with the Development Department to discuss funding opportunities and stewardship of grants.
    • Research potential new grant opportunities and foundations
    • Maintain a running calendar of upcoming application and report due dates
    • Track relevant deliverables and spending for ongoing projects
    • Craft compelling narratives for proposed and ongoing projects
