The Problem

The Plan
NextGen Baykeepers after-school program aims to bridge the gap between classroom education and real-world environmental challenges by providing immersive outdoor experiences to area youth. Recognizing that many youth today, particularly those in underserved communities, lack meaningful interactions with the outdoors, this program offers experiential education to foster a connection with our local waterways.
Through kayaking, nature exploration, STEAM-based activities, and lessons on water quality, students develop an appreciation for their environment and are empowered to protect it. By participating in this program, students spend more time moving outdoors, build confidence and social connection, strengthen STEM and ecosystem knowledge, and develop a lasting relationship with coastal Alabama’s waterways.
