SWIM Program Intern

The SWIM Internship at Mobile Baykeeper offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the safeguarding of Coastal Alabama’s water quality. This paid/part-time role involves monitoring bacteria levels at swimming sites across Mobile and Baldwin County. Ideal candidates are comfortable working in rugged outdoor conditions, capable of water-based activities, and possess reliable transportation. While prior water quality sampling experience is not mandatory, a willingness to collect and process water samples, along with a passion for environmental conservation, is essential. This internship provides hands-on fieldwork experience, empowering interns to actively support the protection and safety of our community’s waterways.

Our SWIM program monitors bacteria levels at several swimming sites throughout Mobile and Baldwin County.

Applicants must:

  • Be comfortable working in rugged outdoor conditions.
  • Be able to swim and wade in water.
  • Have reliable transportation.

Interns will be collecting water samples at sites either in Mobile or Baldwin County, and returning to our office to process them. We do not require prior experience water quality sampling, but prior fieldwork experience is preferred. You will need to utilize your own transportation, but mileage expenses will be reimbursed.
