Mobile Baykeeper Signed Onto Transit Letter of Support to Senator Shelby
Mobile Baykeeper joined 13 other community leaders in signing onto a letter to Senator Richard Shelby urging him to support the 2012 transportation authorization bill being discussed in Congress. In particular, they are seeking support for the inclusion of the Transit Oriented Development Credit Enhancement Facility, which has the potential to make some significant changes in Mobile and Baldwin Counties.
Should this be included, the bill could open opportunities for new and refurbished transportations options such as a high-speed passenger ferry across Mobile Bay, restoration of the street-car line from the Loop (where Government St. and Airport Blvd. join) to Downtown Mobile, and modifications to the I-10 West tunnel and the Civic Center.
