The Department of Public Safety in conjunction with the Alabama National Guard is operating the centers to make sure contractors working in Alabama responding to the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill have the proper credentials.

Contractors will need to show one of the following forms of identification to receive their credentials: state issued driver’s license or I.D. card, military I.D. card or U.S. passport. Foreign nationals must show a country-issued passport and an I-94 form showing they are authorized to be in the United States.

Credentialing is not currently required to work in Alabama as a result of the oil spill. However, if the oil comes ashore, state-issued badges will be required. Since the centers opened on May 16, approximately 2,500 contractors have been credentialed.

The Alabama Department of Environmental Management is the lead agency for the state’s response to the oil spill under the Unified Command. ADEM is coordinating efforts for a wide range of state agencies that are involved in responding to the situation. Additional information and updates regarding the oil spill and Alabama’s response may be obtained at www.adem.alabama.gov.
